Interesting plans for a giant sculpture of a Lancaster bomber have been submitted to North Kesteven District Council. It is proposed to build the sculpture by the A46 between Lincoln and Newark, to give the impression of it flying as motorists enter Lincolnshire.
The area is known as “bomber county” due to the number of military airfields it had at the time of World War Two.
The Bomber County Gateway Trust is planning to build a replica of a Lancaster on top of a 10m structure. It is said the 26m high structure would include a support which could be temporarily clad with poppies each November.
It will be interesting to watch this planning application progress and see what reaction it has from the public!
